“Steven Holl: Making Architecture” at the Ostrava House of Art

Steven Holl: Making Architecture exhibit opened at the House of Art in Ostrava, Czech Republic on September 21, 2021. The travelling exhibition presents 11 completed projects by Steven Holl Architects. As part of its European tour, the show also includes a twelfth project – the Ostrava Concert Hall, which is scheduled to break ground in September 2022. The House of Art is the tenth stop on the exhibition’s international tour, after venues in New York, Seoul, Nanjing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Seattle, Houston, and Wroclaw, Poland.
The exhibition opening was celebrated by a performance from the Janáček Orchestra and remarks from Mayor Tomáš Macura “I had the opportunity to spend some time with Steven Holl in his studio in New York, and I could understand his kind of thinking and how he makes his projects – it was very important for me to see. The most important thing of course between all the projects exhibited here is the Concert Hall of Ostrava . . . this is no exaggeration that this project can help Ostrava to be placed first on the map of the world with its architecture. . .” – Mayor Tomáš Macura, September 21, 2021
The opening was recorded and is available for view on Facebook and on YouTube GVUO. “It was a unique and wonderful opening event! I really am grateful for the opening remarks and for everyone contributing to this exhibition event.” – Steven Holl, September 21, 2021.
