Steven Holl and Dimitra Tsachrelia Lectures in Granada, Spain

On March 6, 2024, Steven Holl and Dimitra Tsachrelia delivered invited lectures at ETS Arquitectura Granada, Universidad de Granada. Combined, the two lectures were attended by hundreds of students and regional architecture and industry professionals, in addition to Steven and Dimitra’s Columbia GSAPP advanced studio traveling to Granada to conduct site research for their final projects.

Dimitra’s lecture, “Architectonics of Music,” explored the rhymes and resonances between architecture and music, and how the intersection may serve as springboards for new vocabularies and forms. The discussion was illustrated through GSAPP student work and projects by SHA.

Steven’s lecture, “Questions of Perception,” revisited the 1994 text he co-authored with Alberto Pérez-Gómez and Juhani Pallasmaa, which explored the phenomenology of architecture. Incorporating projects realized after the book’s publication, Steven connected new built works with the original concepts of “phenomenal zones.”

In addition, Steven was interviewed by Jorge Pastor, published in today’s issue of Periódico El Ideal Granada.
