Steven Holl Architects has been selected to enter the next round of the Songshan Lake Science and Technology Exchange Platform Competition.

"Positioned in the center of the Science and Technology Innovation Corridor of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao, Songshan Lake will be a base for major scientific installations, gathering plenty of high-tech industries. Given the overall positioning that Songshan Lake Science City will be developed as a scientific and technological innovation height and working as an engine for promoting quality development of regional economy, the client is inviting design consulting worldwide to reorganize the programs and redefine the purpose of the island, to push the development of Songshan Lake Science City ultimately. It is a blueprint for city of Dongguan to make the Songshan Lake Science and Technology Convention Center to be a monument for science and technology exchange in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with the belief of “Rooted in Dongguan, Contributing to the Greater Bay Area, and Connecting with the World”.
This project is defined as Songshan Lake Science and Technology Convention Center. It aims to set up an exclusive platform for science and technology exchange to optimize the service system in Songshan Lake Science and Technology Industrial Park, holding various kinds of activities such as high-level sci-tech conferences, forums, academic symposia and product launch. Meanwhile, the project is intended to support the innovative industries and fabricate artistic constructions through the interdisciplinary interaction between science and technology and finance.
The brief review committee listened to the reports of the six shortlisted design institutions, and conducted serious research and in-depth discussions on the submitted outcome documents. In the end, three selected design agencies were selected to enter the next round of plan optimization design stage. The list is as follows (in no particular order):
