‘Z’ Space, a new 1,200-square-foot artists’ residency studio and pavilion for the not-for-profit Oberon Foundation in Pound Ridge, NY, has broken ground. The studio is designed as work and exhibition space for a visual or performing artist or small collectives. The architectural concept engages with the idea of z-time—a conceptual link to the 24 time zones of Earth—and is anchored within a grove of tall, old-growth trees. Two ramps extend from the elevated studio, embracing the outdoors and creating an extended threshold into the landscape. Tucked into this natural setting, ‘Z’ Space aspires to the highest ecological standards, with a particular focus on water management and preservation.
