The new Markel Center (Institute for Contemporary Art) at Virginia Commonwealth University now shows its full height and di-grid steel torquing structure, setting the stage for a converging arts forum and soaring upper floor gallery spaces.
Glazing is being installed on the building’s lower floors, enclosing the structure for interior work through the winter. The exposed concrete is being prepped with a waterpoofing and insulating layer in preparation for outer Rheinzink metal panelling.
The new 41,000 sq. ft. building, realized in collaboration with BCWH Architects, forms a gateway for VCU, opening in Fall 2017.
